Austria's Conchita Wurst dedicated night to peace and freedom

Austrian drag act Conchita Wurst has been crowned the winner of the 59th annual Eurovision Song Contest held in Denmark's capital, Copenhagen.
The singer, whose real name is Tom Neuwirth, won with the song Rise Like a Phoenix, collecting 290 points.
The Netherlands finished second with 238 points, with Sweden in third place with 218 points.
The UK's Molly Smitten-Downes came 17th, with 40 points for her song Children of the Universe.
It is the first time Austria has won the contest since 1966, and only the second time the country has competed in the final in the past 10 years as it either did not participate or qualify.

Conchita Wurst

Conchita Wurst had been second favourite to win going into the contest

Wurst had been the second favourite to win behind Sweden going in to the competition, with many predicting the act could be too divisive among voters.
However she was the clear winner, with her victory announced after 34 of the 37 countries had submitted their scores.
Collecting her trophy on stage the singer said: "This night is dedicated to everyone who believes in a future of peace and freedom. You know who you are - we are unity and we are unstoppable."
Speaking backstage later, Wurst said she felt Europe had taken a stand by voting her the winner.
"I dream of a world where we don't have to talk about unnecessary things like sexuality, who you love. I felt like tonight Europe showed that we are a community of respect and tolerance," she said.
The UK's Molly Smitten-Downes was last up to perform in Copenhagen
Smitten-Downes, who closed the performances, had been tipped to score highly with bookmakers placing her in the top five.
She received points from only nine countries: San Marino, Denmark, Malta, Iceland, Norway, Ireland, Spain, Belgium and Georgia.
Her result was still better than the UK's entry last year, when Bonnie Tyler finished 19th on the final scoreboard with 23 points.
The evening's events were overshadowed by the current events in Ukraine, with Russia's entry - The Tolmachevy Sisters - receiving boos from the audience during the results when countries including Azerbaijan awarded them the highest number of points.
When Russia's delegate appeared on screen to announce its votes - seven points of which were for Ukraine - more booing could be heard. Ukraine gave four points to Russia in return.
Russia ended the night in seventh place with 89 points, behind Ukraine with 113.
The Tolmachevy Sisters received points from 13 countries, compared with last year's Russian entrant who received votes from 27 countries.
Live coverage of Eurovision cut to a surprised UK presenter Graham Norton
Ukraine Eurovision entry Ukraine's Mariya Yaremchuk was the first to perform on stage
The contest featured the usual mix of pop tunes and ballads, accompanied by spectacular stage performances.
Ukraine kicked off the show with a man in a giant hamster wheel, while Greece included a trampolinist and Poland offered a number of busty performers who suggestively churned butter and washed laundry on stage.
Some 26 countries performed at the B&W Hallerne arena for an expected television audience of more than 120 million fans.

Christine Amanpour and David Cameron on the Andrew Marr Show on 11 May 2014
Mr Cameron was handed the sign by CNN international correspondent Christine Amanpour

Prime Minister David Cameron has promised Britain "will do what we can" to help find more than 200 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls.
He made the comments as he held a sign bearing the "#Bring Back Our Girls" slogan on the BBC's Andrew Marr show.
Mr Cameron is the latest high-profile supporter of the social media campaign after US First Lady Michelle Obama was pictured with a similar poster.
The Islamist militant group Boko Haram has claimed the abductions.
During the BBC One programme, fellow guest Christine Amanpour, CNN's chief international correspondent, handed Mr Cameron the sign and asked if he would like to join the campaign.
Taking it from her, he replied: "Happily."
The Pope has also tweeted his support, writing: "Let us all join in prayer for the immediate release of the schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria. #BringBackOurGirls."

LMAO!Rick Ross Is A Fake Bad Guy – Says LMFAO

The Party Rock Anthem singers thing Rozay had no right to say they stole his song, ever!
Rick Ross battles LMFAO in court over stolen song

The music group LMFAO – famous for theParty Rock Anthem – are calling Rick Ross a "FAKE THUG" just because the rapper is suing them for jacking his lyrics! Which is kindda true!
The group says Rozay – who was a former corrections officer - built a fake, bad-ass persona strictly to gain credit with the rap community. It's obvious they are taking a dangerous shot at the rapper; scoffing at his past. Bet they don't want to be killed – ok kidding – but maybe!

Ross sued LMFAO in last December ... claiming the group stole his lyric, "Everyday I'm Hustlin'" from his 2006 track "Hustlin'." Rossfurther acknowledges they changed the words slightly to "Everyday I'm shufflin" for their big hit, "Party Rock Anthem" but he insists they couldn't mask the obvious thievery.

LMFAO has just fired back in new legal docs, admitting they actually lifted off Ross' lyric, but claim it's fair game and it's all part of the music business.

Seriously, this doesn't look good. Who copies someone else's song, gives no credit and now insults his past life? Damn! These two white dudes are simply messing with the WRONG FAKE BLACK GUY!
Do you agree?

Guess which designer the reality star is going with?

Kimye Wedding to go on The Keeping Up With The Kardashians

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West grand Parisian wedding is right around the corner and the bride-to-be already confirms she’s got her wedding gown locked down! Even though she would say for sure who designed it!
At the just ended MET Gala on Sunday, May 5, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star told Vogue's Andre Leon Talley, "the wedding dress is ready... its been picked out!"
It comes as no surprise that Kim must have tried on a zillion gowns before choosing the one. She admitted, “yes, quite a few, I narrowed it down. You’ll see.”
While Kimye's close pal, Riccardo Tisci, is the creative director over at Givenchy, we have also seen the future Mrs. West visit Olivier Rousteing at the Balmain showroom not once but twice!

Should we narrow it down to these two amazing designers Kim?

In an interview with CNN's Christine Amanpour, Soyinka also has strong words for First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, over her crying display on national television over the abduction of school girls in Borno State.
Read what Prof. Soyinka had to say about President Jonathan:
This is a government which is not only in denial mentally, but in denial about certain obvious steps to take.
It’s one of those rather child-like situations that if you shut your eyes, if you don’t exhibit the tactile evidence of the missing humanity here, that somehow the problem will go away.
It’s not only the president. It’s the advisers around him. It’s a certain section of the nation, some of whom enjoy for various reasons, a nation in a state of chaos.
They profit by it, and in fact some of them are guilty of provoking the situation.
When Amanpour asked him what he made of the First Lady's outburst on television on the abducted girls, Prof. Soyinka said sarcastically:
I do not want to say anything about that woman who calls herself the First Lady of Nigeria. No, I wont.

The abduction which has drawn worldwide condemnation, also had the porn actress and producer of the porn movie, Destructive Instinct, took to her Facebook page to condemn the terrorists and also told the president to resign since he does not have what it takes to run the insurgents out of town.

5 Minutes With Elsie Kanza (Head Of Africa - World Economic Forum)

Nigeria will be playing host to the World Economic Forum on Africa come May 7th-9th, 2014. The World Economic Forum is not just an African summit, but a global one as Nigeria will be hosting world leaders from across the globe. The major focus of this meeting under the theme "Forging Inclusive Growth, Creating Jobs" is to make Africa a better place to live in for the African populace.
Ahead of this, as a collaborative partner to the World Economic Forum on Africa caught up with Elsie Kanza, Director, Head of Africa, WEF for an exclusive chat.
 Excerpts:
As head of the WEF (Africa), would you say that in the last few years there have been new areas of economic development in the continent and if yes what are some of these opportunities young people can aspire to?
There have been lots of economic development in Africa in recent years, and as an African myself (I’m not sure if I am still qualified to call myself a young mind!) - I am optimistic about the prospects of our young people.  Here in Nigeria, 1.6 million new jobs are being created every year. When you consider that 1.8 million people reach working age each year, it’s clear this is still not enough, but I believe the target will be reached soon.
As for opportunity, Africa needs to play to its strengths. Africa could be a global leader in agriculture and it is desperately important that young people are encouraged to stay in this sector. This means creating real career opportunities, where people can get promoted, learn new skills, take better advantage of technology.
Africans are also excellent innovators; just look at M-Pesa, the mobile payments firm. It is no surprise to me that the businesses that are really making an impact in the consumer space right now are African, rather than consumer brands.
For me, the most important revolution needed is in the area of skills. The global economy has come to Africa. Trade is now no longer reserved to commodities and raw materials; we are now trading technology, clothing, and financial services. This makes it more important than ever that young Africans get the skills they need to play a role in this revolution.
At our meeting this week in Abuja, we will launch the African Skills Initiative; to help leaders deliver the best skills training so our youth can compete in the global marketplace.
In recent times, entertainment has become a huge revenue generator in Africa but it’s still mostly run with private funds. What are your thoughts on this and are there plans by the forum to create projects around this which will create more jobs for the youths and generate even bigger revenue?
This is a very good question. We all know how important entertainment is to Africans but I confess, I was surprised as anyone to learn that Nollywood is now Nigeria’s biggest employer outside of agriculture. This has been a remarkable private sector success story that shows the depth of entrepreneurial talent we have in this continent. I’m looking forward to meeting D’Banj at our meeting this week and we will certainly talk about whether there is room for greater public-private collaboration as a way of driving the sector forward further.
Are there are any major projects the forum will be embarking on anytime soon?
We’re very excited about a number of initiatives. First, I have to mention “Grow Africa”, which has been running for three years now and has already helped over 2.5 million farmers in Africa improve their livelihood. Last week, we announced that it has now raised over $7 billion, so this revolution in agriculture has only just begun.
Then there is the Skills Initiative I mentioned. We are also looking at ways of helping countries get financing for the massive infrastructure projects – water supply, power and roads mainly – that Africa so badly needs. For me, one of the most exciting things about our meetings are the ideas that come out of them that might not have even been considered, which we then help take forward by pulling together a team of committed stakeholders to develop. You’ve already given me an excellent idea, entertainment: maybe we’ll be talking about this at our 2015 meeting.
Why was Africa (and specifically Nigeria) chosen this year and what should the youths of Africa expect to take away from this year's forum?
We chose Nigeria frankly because it was high time we had a meeting here. Roughly one in four sub-Saharan Africans is Nigerian, it has the largest economy in Africa and yet it remains still relatively unknown to many of our partners and constituents. The fact that we have more of our strategic partners – these are the big, global companies that we engage with most regularly on a year-round business – coming to this meeting than any other we have held in Africa demonstrates the level of interest the country is attracting among investors.
This interest will translate into investments that will generate jobs. But more important is bringing investment that provides good quality jobs; jobs with real career prospects, training opportunities and a good environment to work in. What is most important though is that leaders come away from this meeting with a clearer idea on how to build growing economies that don’t leave anyone behind: that prioritize better education, healthcare, roads and safety. Governments have indicated they want to listen, and business wants to help. It is these kinds of partnerships that deliver real benefits to our youth.
There have been speculations that the WEF will change location from Nigeria due to the recent violence in Abuja, is this true?
The problems happening in Nigeria are exactly the reason why we need to be here. This meeting is not the priority for Nigerians right now and nor should it be: bringing back the schoolgirls is everybody’s topmost concern. But the problems being experienced here and sadly in other parts of Africa just show how vitally important it is that we manage to find solutions for the problems we have in society. Nobody wants an Africa where one is afraid to walk the streets or go to school: it is up to all stakeholders – government, business and society – to work together to build a better, more inclusive future for all of us. This is our mission: it’s what we’re here to do.

This is a strange story. Four men including two brothers drowned in a well in their compound at Ogoja Road, Ikom in Cross River State, while trying to retrieve a bucket that fell into the well.

According to a Vanguard report, the first person to enter the well was John Ushie, who lived in the compound. While preparing to go to work that day, he went to the well in the compound to fetch water but the bucket he was using to draw water fell in the well. He thought it was a good idea to try to retrieve the bucket but ended up drowning when he jumped into the well.

His brother, Boniface, who was not around when the incident occurred, rushed home and jumped into the well to rescue his brother but also downed in the process.

When Boniface didn't come out, another neighbor jumped in to try to rescue the two brothers and he too drowned. When the landlord of the house, Eyung Ebam, saw what had happened, he too jumped into the well to rescue the drowned men and...yes, he also drowned. Sounds like something from 'Tales By Moonlight' but apparently this really happened. Continue...

From Vanguard
“It was at this point that nobody was willing to get into the well and the National Drug Law Enforcement, NDLEA, officials who were mounting a road block close to the house called the Fire Service and they arrived soon ”, an eye witness told Sunday Vanguard.

The eye witness explained that when the Fire Service men arrived, one of them jumped into the well with a rope with which he tied the landlord who was the last person to drown  in order to pull him out. “He tied the rope around his chest region and gradually his colleagues dragged him out but when he got close to the point they wanted to grab him and pull him out, the rope slipped and he went down again hitting the others inside which may have eventually killed everyone inside,” the neighbour said.

The four bodies were pulled out by the Fire Service men and taken to County Hospital, Ikom Four Corners and the victims confirmed dead by Dr. Ukwam, the medical doctor, there. An official of the Cross River State Fire Service, Ikom, Mt Linus Ework, said he got a distress  call at about 7 am and he and his men rushed to the scene to rescue the victims but “it was unfortunate that it was a little too late as three of them were pulled out dead”
With regards to the recently released UTME results for the PPT option, it is obvious that many a candidate were victim of failure, and so many of you have the strong desire that you must go into the university this year, thereby the idea of change of course becomes your ultimate decision. As this eagerness continue to grow many of you ask questions like ''What is the cheapest course to get i university?'' Note that entering into the university is not the ultimate but how happy you will be when you graduate in your course, this is a relevant advice to you all who seek to change courses!

1. Don't Choose a None professional course, because you want your self in a university at all cost, THIS IS NIGERIA, if you graduate in a course that you know fully sure that it is not applicable to this country in terms of getting a job, you are deceiving yourself.

2. Don't choose courses you know fully well that you can't cope with all in the name of gaining admission in the university: I see so many post from inexperienced members of this website that tells you that if you don't score high in jamb that you should choose Education courses, if you go by that! SORRY FOR YOURSELF; To enlighten you on this, Education course is becoming a teacher, and teaching job is a Natural gift from GOD don't enter there because of your Low score because you will end up being the least in that field and by that SORRY FOR YOU; most of you can't even stand in midst of an audience of just 20 persons to deliver but just because they want to be roaming in the university like others they go into the wrong destiny.

NOTE!!! INSTEAD OF YOU TO BE WASTING YOUR TIME IN THE UNIVERSITY; GO AND PICK UP A VERY NICE COURSE IN THE POLYTECHNIC. THE EARLIER THE BETTER.

To give you a perfect example, one of my cousins who took jamb in 2004 he made 261 then , and he studied Education & Chemistry because he had this strong desire for teaching and wanted to realise this talent by adding more colour to it in the Univesity of benin, as at 2004 many of his classmates come to our house and he will be teaching them as if he was a professional, most times he taught me primary science and primary health education. As you are reading this post now, this my cousin is a Lecturer in University of Markudi teaching Chemistry in Faculty of Medical/pharmaceutical sciences. So my brother Education is a practical work not something you will sit inside the office even when you don't know what you are doing there.
This is to inform all JAMB Direct Entry candidates that the Change of Course/Institution for 2014 has begun. JAMB Direct Entry Candidates, who for one reason or the other would like to change their JAMB course/institution are advised to do so promptly as this process is expected to end soon.

You all will agree that Micah’s theory cannot be overlooked.
Boko haram operatives are very smart, and this is no doubt an ingenious way to transport bombs.
Here is hoping this gets to security officials, and in future thorough checks carried out at check points regardless of sirens.

My Samsung S4 takes up to 3-4hours to complete charging and this could be annoying sometimes, but it’s an annoyance we’ve all come to accept.
Basically, there is no choice, you can either wait or kepp moving around with a dead battery.
Years from now, we will all be laughed at thinking back to our time, because then, there is a possibility that there will be a charger to charge your phone complete and fully charged for only 30seconds. A video of the prototype was posted on YouTube, watch it at the end of the post.
30 second phone charging 500x237 30 Second Phone Chargers To Be Available In 2016? [See Video Of How It Works]
The secret behind that technology was unveiled by a company called StoreDot which is called Nanodot bio-organic nanocrystals. (sounds strange?) this sounds strange to me too, lets find out what it means bellow.
StoreDot is a company based in Israeli which recently demonstrated its Nanodot technology at the Microsoft “Think Next Conference” in Tel Aviv.
He said that at the core of the new technology was the use of peptides, compounds containing amino acids.
“We are modifying the surface of the electrodes with bio-organic compounds, peptides, to increase the chemical reaction to produce extra energy,” he said.
He also added
“It allows us to avoid the most annoying aspect of our smartphones, of which we are demanding more and more, and to ensure that we have a charged telephone all day,”
Breaking down this words scientifically using its terms,: you could be able to fully charge your phone in 30 seconds by 2016.
There are some things to note about the Store-Dot technology.
First, this charger is as large as a laptop charger, which isn’t really pocketable for traveling. I’m sure it’s also very expensive to make.
However, Its known that StoreDot will reduce the size and price of the charger over the year, Eventually, the charger is expected to cost twice as much as an average phone charger (around $60), which is a lot lesser than what i would pay for something as cool and useful as this.
This device is expected to hit market in late 2016, so we’re still a couple years away. However, in a mobile world that has constantly struggled with battery life innovations, this could be an important turning point.
chibok girls 500x265 Mercy Johnson Writes On Missing School Girls #BringBackOurGirls

The star actress writes on the missing Chibok girls. Find her article below…
Sometimes, our realities remind us of the pain of others. My reality as a mother is that I get to see my daughter every day, while the reality of the mothers of the kidnapped 234 Chibok girls is that they don’t even know where their daughters are.
I looked at my daughter and tears came to my eyes that some mothers have the privileges of seeing their kids on a daily basis while the mothers of the kidnapped girls can only console themselves with memories. Continue…
All well-meaning Nigerians must come together and help these mothers who have been in pain for more than two weeks and make the memory a reality — the reality of seeing their children again. Let us not for once think that the evil-doers who turn the realities of these mothers to memories cannot do the same to us if they have the opportunities.
This is not a war against select group of people; it is a war against all well-meaning mothers in Nigeria as injustice to one is injustice to all. Let the mothers rise, the men who love them should stand by their right hand and the children who adore them on their left and do all we can in our spheres of influence to ensure that the children come back home safe so that the mothers can smile again.
Can you pray? Increase the tempo of your prayers. Can you fast? Add extra days to it. If what you can do is protest, please do; perhaps you are a soldier and can go to the war front please do not sit still. You are a politician or a voice that Boko Haram can listen to, please speak.
We need the girls back!!! They are innocent, they have their future ahead of them, please do not cut it short. I dare say some of them will end up being the solution we desire to restore the lost and battered glory of this nation. Please don’t kill or damage the future all in the name of militancy.
I appeal to the soldiers and other security operatives, don’t be demoralised, please fight hard, fight more and fight on. Do not let this evil people for once think that they can get away with this. If they ever get away with this, let me assure you that we won’t all be able to sleep with our eyes closed and that includes you, your wives and children. If an Emir can be killed in his palace, who is safe in his or her home? Nobody!
I appeal to the political class and those in power, do not think that any right-thinking Nigerian would allow that this matter be swept under the carpet, this isn’t one of the matters we would keep mum about. We will continue talking, praying, protesting until you make the matter your matter. If your child were one of the children that was abducted, we would probably have heard of the end of the matter. Let’s not fold our arms and let evil reign.
Nigeria shall be great, only if we do the right thing and the right thing at this moment is to bring our girls back and alive.

Nigerians living in New York City took to the streets of New York yesterday to protest the kidnap of over 250 Chibok schoolgirls. They were joined by other non-Nigerians who walked with them in solidarity. The protesters all adorned Africa headgear as they walked the streets and finally stopped at the Union Square in New York. Another group protested in D.C. See more photos below:

The management of the Federal university of technology has announced this coming Tuesday 7th May to be their matric date which ought to have been done on the 3rd of April.

The AGENTNEWS UPDATE Team  wish all successful fresh students a happy and joyful celebration.
The Islamist group, Boko Haram, may have got over $70million between 2006 and 2011 for its insurgent activities in Nigeria which claimed lives, the most recent of which is the Friday Nyanya, Abuja bombing, from its sponsors.

At a conservative exchange rate of 1 to 160, that amount comes to N11.2billion.
This and many others were part of the revelations by retired Major Chris Moghalu of the United States of America’s military.
And whereas he first made the disclosure on the African Independent Television, AIT, morning magazine programme, FOCUS NIGERIA, hosted by Gbenga Aruleba.
It was also learnt that many of the bank raids and armed robbery occurrences which became rampant in some parts of the North were orchestrated by members of the sect.
A security source, while corroborating some of the revelations by Major Moghalu, disclosed that the funds did not just come from one mono-source of one trans-national criminal activity.
It was revealed that with a clever web of a series of trans-national organized criminal activities, Boko Haram, a mere assembly of rag-tag political thugs masquerading as Islamic evangelists, has been able to rake in so much money from its sponsors. In the process, the group is also demonstrating that it can inflict maximum catastrophe and destruction on the nation.
The trans-national crimes used to secure funds for the group include but are not limited to the following: drug trafficking, smuggling, weapons trafficking, money laundering, kidnap for ransom, opinion sale and outright armed robbery.
It was gathered that the involvement of AQAP and AQIM, as well as Al Shabab from the East African flank, “has made the movement of funds very fluid and multi-optional”, the security source disclosed.
On September 23, 2012, it can be recalled that one of the money couriers of Boko Haram was arrested with N4.5million. ‘The accountant’ was said to be in transit between Kano and Zaria with the cash belonging to the Islamist group when men of the JTF intercepted and arrested him.
Sources said he was travelling in a commuter bus as a cover.
The arrest came barely two days after security agents tracked and killed Boko Haram spokesman, Abu Qaqa, in an operation in Kano.
The Islamist group’s ‘accountant’, it was learnt, embarked on the journey which originated from Maiduguri, Borno State, to make cash transfers. The sources said his cover blew after he and another associate made some money transfers in Kano, an action that aroused the curiosity of bank officials who alerted security agents.
The associate was arrested but, by then, the ‘accountant’ was already on his way to Zaria. Subsequent manhunt yielded fruit as the ‘Boko Haram accountant’ was arrested in transit.
In fact, “the arrest was responsible for the seeming lull in the activities of the sect in the Kaduna/Kano axis for a few months.”
In the area of collaboration, NE found that the foot soldiers for AQAP and AQIM are now in Nigeria operating alongside Boko Haram.
As part of the network, it was discovered during investigation that the seeming exploits of the group in recent weeks is a direct function of the involvement and full participation of members of AQAP and AQIM.
As a grand design to score maximum publicity (notoriety) with their activities in Nigeria, NE was made to understand that the trio of AQAP, AQIM and Al-Shabab decided to deploy resources with a view to executing terror campaigns in Nigeria.
A security source pointed out that “whereas there are still pockets of Boko Haram members domiciled in the country and are being picked up, the terrorists involved in cross-border activities are largely made up of foreigners”.
Sometime in the fading part of the third quarter of 2009, the then President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua made a bold move regarding the militants in Nigeria’s Niger Delta.
He sought to grant amnesty after dozens of months of militancy which had seen Nigeria’s crude oil output plummet to less than 20% of total output. But his major headache was how to convince the leaders of the militants who were not only making tens of millions of naira from illegal sale of the country’s crude but were also making the statement that the despoliation of the region needed attention.
It was learnt last week from a source inside Aso Rock Presidential Villa of the strategy that Yar’Adua put in place and which eventually worked.
Firstly, the then President got a Niger Delta politician cum professional who was not only respected but who also had a voice and could reach out to the militants.
The politician / professional could so do, it was disclosed, because his position as former Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, as well as his outreach agenda across the region, placed him in good stead to pursue the President’s mandate.
That was how he became the chief negotiator preparatory to the amnesty programme which even the United States of America, today, is keen to get more information about because it is the first of its kind in the world where insurgents are disarmed, integrated and comparative peace restored to the region.
In fact, President Yar’Adua demonstrated his commitment and seriousness to keep faith, “that he sent his Defence Minister, General Godwin Abbe, as well as Chief Tony Anenih, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees Chairman, to the creeks to meet with the militants that this was not just a government gimmick”.
Indeed, a drama of sorts ensued when the militants in Tompolo’s Camp 5 eyeballed General Abbe for threatening them. “They told him that his own community was already surrounded and if he thought he could come to their camp and threaten them, they were ready for him in equal measure to unleash terror on his community, too”, the presidential source said.
Another militant leader, Ateke Tom, had to be prevailed upon to disarm and convince his colleagues by this same set of leaders. In his own case, a helipad was specially built in his camp so that a helicopter could land there for onward movement to Owerri International Airport, Owerri, en-route Abuja.
Both Tompolo and Tom met with Yar’Adua – even then, Anenih still had to prevail on them to disarm. It was, therefore, heartwarming on the last day of the amnesty deadline when Tompolo’s boys engaged a procession to disarm.
Today, there is relative peace in the region.
Therefore, the principles are still the same and the processes that led to disarming the militants can be adopted in a way for the Boko Haram terrorists.
The British government and the IRA reached for a negotiated settlement after decades of a destructive face off. The Tamil Tigers also had to chill after decades of wanton destruction.
Senator Ali Ndume, Borno South, spoke on the floor of the Senate of how they got information, got in touch with the military authorities about the impending assault on Chibok, but that the military headed in a wrong direction from where the insurgents struck.
Some observers have spoken about the need to boost the morale of the military.
To be fair, the many budgetary provisions made for both the emergency rule in the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe were allegedly not spent wisely to cater for the officers and men of the military.
There were insinuation in some quarters that the sacking of the immediate past Chief of the Army Staff, General Azubuike Ihejirika, was not unconnected with the welfare of the officers and men.
A source in the Presidency told newsmen that just two weeks after the appointment of a new Chief of the Army Staff in the person of General Kenneth Minima, reports from the field suggested that the morale of the troops was heading for the sky because they were being promptly remunerated.
However, whereas President Goodluck Jonathan would not be expected to be on the field issuing directives, leadership remains a very key factor.
Momentum and morale are key. It appears as though the momentum is on the side of the insurgents, the defence forces have also been doing their best.
“Were they not up and doing”, a Department of State Service, DSS, source told newsmen, “what we are complaining about today would have been nothing compared to the agenda of these terrorists”.
He added: “But the pushback that the defence forces continue to give them bloodies their noses and, therefore, they resort to attacking soft targets”.
But targets are targets, soft or hard!
