Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has directed the immediate reversal of the school fees of Lagos State University, LASU, which was increased by the government to what it was as far back as 2011.

Governor Fashola gave the directive today August 7th at the convocation programme of LASU which held earlier today at the LASU Ojo campus ground.

The reversal comes after months of protests by students and lecturers of the university. Continue...

The Lagos State Government had in 2011 increased the fees from N25,000 to N198,000 for humanities & education, while medical students were to pay N350, 000. After the protests, the state government approved a reduction by 34 to 60%, a decision which was refused by the students.

That reduction would have seen students pay between N76, 750 and N158, 250 depending on the faculty and year of study.

LASU students celebrate school fees reversal

Lagos State University students are right now having a party at LH ground at the university campus in celebration of the school fees reversal by Lagos State governor this afternoon.

The polytechnic Ibadan has postponed the screening exercise till further notice. The examination was scheduled for Monday 21th July 2014 to Saturday 26th July 2014 but candidates that registered late were given several different dates.

The affected candidates visited the school to register their complaint and were addressed by one of the I.C.T officials whom apologized to the candidates on behalf of the school management.

According to the Official the date has been postponed due to the fact that most candidates have not registered; some parents and guardians of candidates have not been paid their monthly salary and they are trying to be considerate.

He stated that school management sent sms to candidates through their mobile numbers and email addresses.

For candidates that didn't receive any such sms or mail, the ICT official said it could be as a result of incorrect phone numbers or a problem with the network server.

He further advised candidates to check the school's website for more information as they will be asked to re-print their slip which will contain new examination dates.

This will equally be sent to their phone numbers and email addresses.

If you have not registered before and you wish to do so the portal as been re-opened and registration continues.

A young Nigerian student doing his last year in electronic and electrical engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has built a car operating on solar power.

Segun Oyeyiola explains that his car uses both wind and solar energy for the functioning, The Net reports.

Moreover, the man developed an application for its installation in the car, which app will inform the driver about the battery level, weather conditions and other essential parameters.

In an interview to allAfrica.com Segun spoke about how he came up with the idea and eventually embodied it.

He confessed his first motivation was to eradicate the causes of climate change resulting in fuel combustion.

“In the course of my research, I found out that our regular cars contribute immensely to climate change… If we could manufacture cars that do not use fuel or reduce the number of cars that use fuel; our world will be a better place for us to live in.”

The student had to work and study hard to achieve his aim, which was even harder because of absence of electricity most of the time.

Apart from that, the final year student faced other challenges: “Asides the lack of electricity, getting the right materials and text books to study as well as other needed tools was difficult.

But the most prominent of them was the lack of funds.

I started using my personal funds which I obtained by helping people to do their projects and a little fund my parents also contributed towards the project.”

He also explained that the resulting model is a prototype, but not the final look of the car. Segun hopes to develop his project into a future car for Nigeria and Africa, as it is created with regard to our climate.

The young man points out another important benefit of using his auto – low maintenance cost: “Everyone likes it and they are willing to start driving it around town because of its low cost of maintenance. I developed a simple software that can be installed on our laptops and smart phones to tell us the battery level, the weather condition, the distance we can cover during different weather conditions and GPS location of the car.”

Enthusiastic about his project, Segun says he is not sure whether he would like to sell the idea to some entity, he prefers to have the project funded and continue working on upgrading the auto:

“I would rather they fund me to put together a team to help me perfect them and make them commercial.”

In conclusion the 30-year-old urged youths to look for solutions to the global problems and never stop learning something new.

“And it’s better to start anything we wanted to do now. Let’s do what will make us happy and that which will not affect our fellow being negatively.” Be the first of your friends to like this. liebes-film.de beamer test howtoaddlikebutton.com homepage

Following the release of Unilag’s 2014/2015 Post-UTME details with a cut-off of 200 set by the institution, candidates who applied for the institution and other major institutions are beginning to lament, stating that JAMB set a cut-off of 180 and why would institutions not obey? Well the real situation is that JAMB actually set 180 as the MINIMUM score required for entry into the University and 150 as MINIMUM score required for entry into polytechnics and colleges of education.
This is done to maintain a standard in the country’s educational system. It however, does not mean that every Institution must abide by the minimum cut-off. Rather, they must not go below the minimum cut-off. Now that you’ve understood what the JAMB cut-off means, don’t expect every major institution to abide by the minimum cut-off because they very well below they have a higher standard keep that other institutions

Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Abeokuta, UNAAB, Olusola Oyewole, during a press conference with regard to the 21st and 22nd convocation ceremonies of the institution which will come up on the 20 and 21st June 2014 revealed that the institution has only 3000 available spaces for the 2014/2015 admission.

According to him, out of the over 30,000 candidates that applied through JAMB to study in the institution only 15,000 scored 180 and above and are therefore eligible to go through the screening exercise for admission in the 2014/2015 academic session.

These 15,000 candidates will be competing for the 3000 available admission spaces in the institution.

He however revealed that that only the Senate of the institution would decide what criteria to use in selecting 3000 candidates out of the 15,000.

According to him,the cut -off mark for the institution may turn out to be 200 in order to reduce the number of candidates vying for the limited spaces to 6000.

FUNNAB aspirants, with this development what chances do you think you have in securing admission this year.
