At least seven people were killed and others injured when gunmen hijacked a passenger bus in the coastal town of Witu, a government official confirmed on Saturday.

Lamu County Commissioner Miiri Njenga said the attack on the Tahmeed bus took place along the Lamu-Malindi highway near Witu.

Njenga said the police officers who were on patrol and responded to the scene of crime were ambushed by heavily armed militia.

Five officers were killed and some passengers were injured.

The latest attack came a day after Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) destroyed military camps in Boni forest, who were believed to be behind the spate of killings in the coastal region.

The police have blamed series of killings on the secessionist group – the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) which said coastal people’s rights to land and property ownership had been violated. Be the first of your friends to like this. liebes-film.de beamer test howtoaddlikebutton.com homepage
